Safaricom, in partnership with Huawei, is set to launch Kenya’s first Video Ring Back Tone (VRBT) service on October 8, 2025, evolving their popular Skiza platform. This new service will replace audio-only ring back tones with customized video clips, providing new revenue opportunities for content creators and businesses.

The VRBT service will leverage Safaricom’s established Voice over LTE (VoLTE) network, boasting 97% population coverage on 4G.
Huawei’s VRBT technology has already served over 400 million users with China Mobile, generating over USD 1.5 billion in revenue since 2016.
The existing Skiza service has over nine million subscribers and contributes KES 7.58 billion in annual revenues, with artists currently receiving a 40% payout.
