President William Ruto of Kenya is set to assume the rotating chairmanship of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Authority during the 24th Heads of State and Government Summit in Nairobi. He takes over from President Evariste Ndayishimiye of Burundi.
- The COMESA Authority is the supreme policy and governing body for the 21-member countries bloc.
- The summit follows preparatory meetings, including the COMESA–EU Horticulture Connect and the 18th Business Forum and Exhibition.
- The bloc, established in 1994, aims to promote regional trade, sustainable growth, and peace among its member countries, which have a combined population of more than 640 million people.
