The Senate Committee on National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations has been urged to investigate significant delays in the issuance and collection of National Identity Cards (IDs) across Kenya, despite President William Ruto's recent waiver of replacement fees.

• Murang'a Senator Joe Nyutu requested the committee address the backlog of uncollected IDs held by Huduma Centres and the National Registration Bureau (NRB).
• The inquiry follows President Ruto’s directive to waive the Ksh1,000 ID replacement fee until after the 2027 General Election to support ongoing voter registration.
• Parliament recently approved the Registration of Persons (Amendment) Bill, which aims to automatically issue IDs and register Form Four students as voters upon turning 18.
