Hundreds of Kenyans are being tricked into joining the Russian military through a recruitment scheme that promises lucrative jobs abroad but leads to forced conscription into the ongoing war. Many are coerced into signing contracts written in Russian upon arrival, with threats of financial ruin if they refuse.

• A victim, referred to as Don, was lured by Global Face Agencies with a tourist visa and promises of employment, only to be forced to sign a military contract or repay USD 10,000 (approximately Ksh. 1.2 million) in expenses.
• Don managed to return after his wife paid Ksh. 450,000 to accomplices in Kenya, but reports others being injured or killed, with their families unaware.
• John Mwangi Nduta, a former Kenya Defence Forces officer, travelled to Russia through the same agency and was deployed to the Russia-Ukraine war frontlines, with communication ceasing on July 25.
• Edward Kamau and 21 others were arrested at Great Wall Gardens in Kenya, facing trafficking charges, highlighting the scale of the operation.
