Kenya is poised to receive increased support from the World Bank following a meeting in Washington D.C. where proposals were made to expand the global body's scope in the country. This expansion could see the World Bank involved in aiding local pharmaceutical manufacturers and supporting Kenya's digital and energy compacts.

• Total current World Bank support to Kenya: approximately $8 billion (Ksh1 trillion).
• Key areas for expanded support include: piloting assistance to local pharmaceutical manufacturers, Kenya’s implementation of the Digital Compact, the mineral and rare metals value chain, and participation in the Energy Compact.
• The meeting involved government officials from the National Treasury and Executive Director Dr Zarah Kibwe, representing the African Group I (AfGI) at the World Bank.
• A separate proposal encourages engagement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to boost private sector involvement in the digital economy and manufacturing.
