The Kenyan government has declared Friday, October 17, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in India at the age of 80.

• The announcement was made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and President William Ruto declared seven days of mourning.
• Raila Odinga's wish was to be buried within 72 hours of his passing, leading to a State funeral at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, which will be attended by dignitaries from around the world.
• His body is expected to arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 9:30 AM, received by President William Ruto, with security tightened by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
