Strathmore University's Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences and Computing, Eng. Dr. Julius Butime, has urged stronger industry linkages to bridge the significant skills gap in engineering education across Kenya.
- More than 7,000 engineering graduates join Kenya’s labour market annually, many struggling due to a mismatch between theoretical skills and workplace demands.
- Strathmore University, through its Engineering Programme launched in 2021, focuses on producing "market-ready graduates" via partnerships with industry players like Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO).
- The university has integrated emerging skills such as Artificial Intelligence in power systems and cybersecurity into its curriculum, and collaborated with institutions including Makerere University and the University of Oxford to co-develop or revise over 20 academic courses.
