Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has petitioned the Milimani Law Courts to prevent Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and other state officials from engaging in political activities. He, along with Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Vice President Mwaura Kabata, seeks to bar the implementation of Section 25 of the new Conflict of Interest Act, 2025, arguing it is unconstitutional and discriminatory.

• They contend that the exemption of Cabinet Secretaries and members of County Executive Committees from restrictions found in Article 75 of the Constitution is discriminatory.
• The petition cites a rally in Kieni, Nyeri County, on April 2, where state officers reportedly engaged in partisan activities, demonstrating a perceived erosion of public service independence.
