The national government and Nairobi City County plan to transform the street outside the iconic Kenya Cinema building into a vibrant film district.

Youth Affairs and Creative Economy Principal Secretary Fikirini Jacob announced the initiative on Thursday, October 30, during Pwani Innovation Week.
The project aims to improve the creative sector and channel the energy of young content creators and photographers.
The Kenya Cinema, established in the 1950s by 20th Century Fox, was once a premier film exhibition venue and a cultural landmark in Nairobi, hosting major film premieres from the 1960s to the 1980s.
The new film district is envisioned as a center for film and media production, distribution, and related creative industries, similar to Hollywood or Film City Mumbai.
