A 21-year-old man arrested for firing at police officers during a botched robbery in Kisumu County has reportedly died by suicide in custody at Kisumu Central Police Station. He was discovered missing during a roll call and later found in the cell bathroom.

• The suspect was arrested on October 27 after an exchange of gunfire with officers on Otieno Oloo Street.
• Kisumu Commandant Bakari stated the man, with two others, carried a suspicious bag and drew an assault rifle when spotted by officers.
• He allegedly held a security guard at gunpoint, robbed him, and continued firing from inside a temple, where an AK-47 rifle and five rounds of ammunition were recovered.
• The suspect was remanded for 14 days and was to be arraigned on October 28, 2025.
