After a two-month strike, public university lecturers in Kenya have agreed to end their industrial action, accepting a phased payout of the Ksh. 7.9 billion owed from their 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
- The payment will be made in two instalments, with Ksh. 3.8 billion by December 2024 and the remainder by June 2026.
- The agreement was reached between the government and unions, including the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU), Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU), and Kenya Union Of Domestic Hotels Educational Institutions Hospitals & Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA).
- UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga confirmed the agreement, expressing satisfaction that the full amount had been secured despite earlier demands for a lump-sum payment.
