The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) officially ended its 49-day strike by lecturers on Wednesday, November 5, after reaching an agreement with the government regarding outstanding salary arrears. The industrial action, which began in September, had significantly disrupted university operations nationwide.

The government committed to paying the outstanding Ksh7.9 billion in salary arrears from the 2017–2021 Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA).
Dr. Constantine Wasonga, UASU Secretary General, confirmed a two-phase payment plan: the first disbursement between November and December, and the second in July 2026.
Dr. Wasonga apologized to students for lost time but assured a full recovery of learning hours, and warned of another strike if the government fails to honor the agreement.
