Two artisanal miners were killed and two others rescued after a gold mining shaft collapsed in Siaya County on Saturday evening. The incident trapped four miners underground, prompting a night-long rescue operation.

• Tragically, the bodies of Dickson Odongo, aged 30, and Michael Oduor, aged 23, were recovered hours after the collapse.
• Evans Mbogo and Walter Nyaoko Okech were successfully rescued and taken for treatment.
• All mining activities in Rera Sub-location have been suspended until after the rainy season to allow a comprehensive inspection of mining sites and promote safety awareness.
