The Catholic community in Kenya is mourning the death of veteran Kakamega Bishop Emeritus Rt Rev Philip Sulumeti, who passed away on Sunday night at a Nairobi hospital.

• Bishop Sulumeti was the first-ever Bishop of the Kakamega Diocese, appointed on February 28, 1978.
• The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) eulogized him for his dedicated pastoral service, humility, and commitment to the mission of Christ.
• He passed away in his late 80s, with his clerical journey spanning nearly five decades.
