Over 29,000 Kenyans are succumbing to cancer annually, with an additional 44,700 new cases reported, figures that could be understated due to data collection issues, according to the Kenya Network of Cancer Organizations (KENCO).

• KENCO Executive Director Phoebe Ongadi highlighted that the transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA) has worsened patients' emotional and financial burdens.
• 60 percent of cancer patients deplete their SHA benefits package before year-end, with 35 percent exhausting it in less than 3 months, forcing 13 percent to abandon treatment.
• Families face an average annual cost of Ksh.3.8 million for cancer treatment, turning the disease into a significant financial nightmare.
