Kenya is undertaking a significant infrastructure project to expand the 23.5-kilometre Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi road (Kiambu Road) into a four-lane dual carriageway to alleviate traffic congestion between Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
- The project will transform the road from a two-lane single carriageway to a four-lane dual carriageway, including 2-lane service roads and pedestrian walkways on both sides.
- The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is the executing agency, with financing commitment from China through the China Export Import (EXIM) Bank.
- The tender for contractors closed on August 22, 2025, requiring applicants to have a minimum annual construction turnover of Ksh.32.2 billion (USD 250 million) for the last five years.
