The Principal Secretary for the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, has urged Kenyan mothers in Saudi Arabia to secure necessary documents for their children, addressing the legal challenges faced due to Saudi laws on out-of-wedlock births.

The Mwanamberi Project in 2023 collected 707 DNA samples (including 388 from children), resulting in 110 processed birth certificates out of 113 applications.
The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs has noted an underwhelming response from parents, with only a third of the 110 parents collecting birth certificates from the Riyadh Embassy.
Through a Joint Interdepartmental Working Group, 39 mothers and 73 children have been repatriated, and an amnesty was negotiated for individuals out of status.
