Shamiri Institute in Kenya has launched shamiriAI, an artificial intelligence platform aimed at providing scalable and cost-efficient mental health support to young people across Africa, positioning Kenya as a hub for socially targeted AI solutions.
- The platform aims to reach 10 million young people by 2032, building on an existing model that has served over 185,000 youth at a cost of just $7 per person.
- Developed by Shamiri Institute Founder and CEO Tom Osborn, shamiriAI integrates machine learning, data analytics, and speech recognition, including support for English, Swahili, and Sheng.
- French Ambassador to Kenya and Somalia, H.E. Arnaud Suquet, highlighted Kenya’s potential to lead in socially driven AI, praising Shamiri’s model for its cost-effectiveness, being over ten times cheaper than traditional therapy.
