Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has removed Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga from his role as CEC for Agriculture due to a political fallout after Magwanga campaigned for a rival in the recent Kasipul by-election.

Governor Wanga's executive order on December 1, 2025, also saw Danish Onyango appointed as Acting CEC for Agriculture and the dismissal of Dr Peter Ogolla from the Lands department.
The fallout intensified after Magwanga openly supported Phillip Aroko against ODM's Boyd Were, who was backed by Wanga.
ODM's Boyd Were ultimately won the by-election with 16,819 votes, while Aroko secured 8,476 votes.
