Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki reported that strategic investments in agriculture have significantly boosted the county's economy, leading to a substantial increase in its gross domestic product (GDP).
- The county's GDP grew by 11.5 percent, from Sh80.5 billion in 2022 to Sh87.9 billion in 2023.
- Over 200,000 farmers have benefited from agricultural investments, including the distribution of 540 tonnes of certified seeds.
- Dairy production rose by 6 million litres, from 128 million litres in 2023 to 134 million litres last year, with a 25 percent increase in pasture development acreage.
- The county has also expanded fish farming, establishing over 3,000 active fishponds and 12 hatcheries, resulting in over 1.6 million fingerlings hatched.
- Rehabilitation efforts have been made for tea buying centers and coffee processing infrastructure to enhance value addition and reduce post-harvest losses.
