The inaugural EU Maritime Security Week concluded in Nairobi, Kenya, fostering stronger regional cooperation to combat maritime threats across the Red Sea, East Africa, Southern Africa, and the Western Indian Ocean.

• The event brought together 112 delegates from 16 countries and 12 regional and international organizations from December 2 to 5.
• Commander of the Kenya Navy Fleet, Brigadier Mohamed Shemote, stressed the urgency of a harmonized regional response to threats like piracy and illicit trafficking.
• Outcomes included the seizure of 2.4 tonnes of narcotics, ten million cigarettes, and the arrest of 36 suspected human traffickers.
