Zimbabwe is poised to become Southern Africa’s electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and distribution hub through a significant investment from China’s Jiangmen Tengxin Motorcycle Technology Co. Ltd. This initiative, strongly supported by the Zimbabwean government, aims to create thousands of jobs and establish Zimbabwe as a key player in green technology manufacturing for the wider Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
- Jiangmen Tengxin Motorcycle Technology Co. Ltd, a Chinese manufacturer exporting to 33 countries and producing 500,000 engines annually, is set to launch a large-scale EV project in Zimbabwe.
- The project is expected to create at least 5,000 permanent jobs, with an additional 90 Zimbabweans recruited for specialized technical roles, and will involve technology transfer and training by Chinese engineers.
- A Chinese delegation will visit Zimbabwe in early February 2026 to finalize investment details, with full operational capacity anticipated within three years, making Zimbabwe a distribution center for the SADC region.
