Mombasa County has announced a new 6 PM beach closing time during the festive season to enhance tourist safety and prevent drowning incidents. This directive applies to all beaches in the county.

All beaches will close at 6 PM, enforced by police officers blowing whistles to clear the water.
Police Commander Peter Kimani stated that county security teams and the Kenya Navy will conduct regular water patrols.
New beach management committees consisting of officers from KWS, General Police, Tourist Police, and Coast Guard have been formed to oversee security and protect tourists from "rogue beach boys and hawkers."
The announcement follows Governor Abdulswamad Nassir's directive for event organizers to secure approval from the disaster management committee for all public events, regardless of size or location, to reinforce security and emergency preparedness.
