Embu County has reached an agreement with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) to promote doctors and hire more medical staff, averting a potential health crisis. This breakthrough followed a consultative meeting where issues raised by medical practitioners were addressed.
- 59 doctors will be promoted, with 19 consultants promoted by January 15, 2026.
- All 30 doctors on contract will be converted to permanent and pensionable employment.
- Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire committed to hiring 20 more doctors, with 14 recruited immediately and the remaining 6 by January 2026.
- The agreement also includes the full remittance of all outstanding statutory deductions, addressing concerns about poor labor practices.
