Africa's solar energy sector is on the cusp of a significant transformation, with 2026 projected as a critical turning point for the continent's clean energy transition. The region is moving from incremental progress to accelerated growth, driven by increasing installations and international commitments.

Africa's solar capacity, which reached 19.2 GW by the end of 2024, is projected to more than double by 2028 with an additional 23 GW.
The Global Solar Council forecasts a 42 percent rise in annual solar installations across Africa in 2025.
The recently concluded COP30 in Brazil reaffirmed commitments to significantly increase renewable energy, with pledges totaling over $50 billion for African renewables.
