A faction of Kaya Fungo elders has publicly opposed the installation of former Matuga Member of Parliament Chirau Ali Mwakwere as the Mijikenda spokesperson, citing a lack of consultation and adherence to traditional processes.

• The elders, led by Tsuma Nzai, have issued a 14-day ultimatum for an apology to the Mijikenda community.
• Kaya Youth Representative Nguma Charo stated, "Kuna njama fiche na tulijua sio maswala ya kisiasa na wamekuja na mbinu mpya ya kuuza Mijikenda."
• The elders allege the move is politically motivated, with Kaya Elder Pascal Tuva asserting, "Shughuli iliyofanyika jana sisi hatuitambui wala kuiunga mkono. Sisi wazee wa kaya hatuna chama. Hio shughuli ilikua ni chama kimeapishana."
