The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has called on the Kenyan government to immediately review and improve the minimum wage for workers, while also urging private sector employers to facilitate Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) talks.

Current minimum wage for general workers in major cities like Nairobi is approximately Ksh 16,113 per month, with rural areas earning around Ksh 8,596.
Atwoli previously mandated private security companies to comply with a Ksh 30,000 minimum wage directive in December 2023.
Out of 2,000 registered private security firms, only 30 were found to be tax compliant, with over 800 non-compliant with labor laws and 800 others lacking physical business locations.
