The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has demolished an illegal, two-roomed iron sheet structure built deep inside Makutani Forest in Baringo County on Saturday, January 3. This operation is part of intensified efforts to combat encroachment on public forest land, with KFS stating the building violated the Forest Conservation and Management Act No. 34 of 2016 and refuted claims it was an operational school.

The illegal structure was erected in the Lekirati area of Makutani Forest.
KFS warned the structure posed security risks and could legitimize further encroachment by pastoral communities.
The operation is the latest in a series of similar actions by KFS nationwide, including the burning of houses in Tapach Forest in October 2025 and stopping construction in Ngong Road Forest in September 2025.
