A BBC investigation has revealed that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor received £15 million from Kazakh billionaire Timur Kulibayev for the sale of Sunninghill Park, with funds originating from a firm implicated in a bribery scheme.
Kulibayev's lawyers stated the funds were legitimate, despite Italian prosecutors concluding a company involved, Enviro Pacific Investments, received cash from a 2007 bribery scheme.
Money laundering expert Tom Keatinge commented the deal had "blatant red flags" that should have prompted detailed checks.
Kulibayev reportedly paid £3 million more than the asking price and an estimated £7 million above the property's market value.
