The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) intercepted Kshs16.26 million worth of illicit ethanol near the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) corridor in Nairobi, acting on an intelligence tip-off about unlawful ethanol movement. Officers recovered 20 drums, each containing 250 litres, totaling 5,000 litres of ethanol, despite the lorries transporting it having departed before their arrival.

  • The seized ethanol, if released, could have produced approximately 48,200 bottles with an estimated market value of Kshs14.46 million.
