The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has seized 5,000 litres of suspected illicit ethanol, valued at Ksh.14 million, during an overnight operation near the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) corridor in Nairobi. The intercept, which also included a vehicle, prevents an estimated Ksh.7.42 million in tax losses.
- A total of 20 drums, each with a capacity of 250 litres, were recovered after lorries suspected of transporting the ethanol had already departed the yard.
- The KRA acted on a public tip-off, leading to the discovery of the offloaded ethanol.
- A Toyota Fielder, valued at Ksh.1.8 million, was impounded at the scene and was fitted with suspected tracking system jammers, bringing the total value of seized goods to Ksh.16.26 million.
