The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has called off its planned strike in Kisumu County after reaching an agreement with Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o’s administration. The deal sets a 90-day deadline to address doctors' welfare issues, including promotions and confirmation of contract staff.

The agreement was reached during a meeting convened by Governor Nyong’o on Tuesday.
KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah welcomed the elevation of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) to Level 6 status.
The agreement covers 10 doctors in the competitive cadre (JG Q–S), 19 doctors progressing from JG M to N and N to P, and 8 doctors on long-term contracts to be confirmed as permanent and pensionable.
Dr. Atellah stated that KMPDU is prepared to take action if the 90-day deadline is not met.
