BMW Group South Africa Limited has issued a regional safety recall for select vehicle models due to defective airbags, urging vehicle owners in Kenya and eight other COMESA member states to check their cars.

• The recall affects BMW 3 Series E46 models manufactured between January 2002 and August 2006 (defective driver-side airbags) and models produced between 1999 and August 2006 (faulty passenger-side airbags).
• The COMESA Competition and Consumer Commission (CCCC) advised affected consumers to have their vehicles inspected and repaired at authorized BMW dealerships.
• The faulty Takata airbags can rupture after prolonged exposure to humidity and high temperatures, posing a risk of serious or fatal injuries.
