The East African Community (EAC) has launched its first Regional Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR) Policy Framework in Arusha, Tanzania. This new instrument aims to enhance collaborative action against public health emergencies across the eight EAC Partner States, building on lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic and other outbreaks.

• The policy was approved by the 25th EAC Sectoral Council of Ministers of Health in May 2025.
• EAC Deputy Secretary General Andrea Malueth emphasized the need for a "whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach" to pandemic preparedness.
• The framework integrates the One Health approach, recognizing disease transfer between animals and humans, involving sectors like agriculture, livestock, tourism, and climate change.
