The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) have launched new reforms to expedite cargo clearance at the Port of Mombasa, aiming to alleviate congestion and improve trade flow.
- Long-stay cargo at the port for more than 21 days will be moved to designated Container Freight Stations.
- KRA will enhance pre-arrival processing, prioritizing bulk cargo, low-risk shipments, and Authorized Economic Operator consignments.
- Additional Standard Gauge Railway wagons will be deployed to move containers to Embakasi and Naivasha Inland Container Depots.
- A multi-vendor system for Regional Electronic Cargo Tracking System (RECTS) seals will be introduced to prevent shortages.
