Kenya is on high alert due to escalating conflict in South Sudan near its border, as the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) reports fresh attacks and widespread displacement.

• More than 180,000 people have been displaced by the recent conflict, which UNMISS attributes to senior government officials and violations of ceasefire agreements.
• The Sudan People's Liberation Army in Opposition (SPLA-IO) has reportedly attacked and captured several areas in Jonglei State.
• Kenya has been actively involved in pushing for the implementation of the 2018 peace deal in South Sudan, with President William Ruto engaging with President Salva Kiir Mayardit and First Vice-President Riek Machar to stabilize the country.
