- Environment and Climate Change Principal Secretary Festus Ng’eno emphasized that Africa must be self-reliant in securing climate funding, speaking at the IGAD Summit for the 72nd Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 72).
- The October–December 2025 rains delivered only 30 to 60 percent of normal rainfall in many areas, with drought conditions expected to persist into early 2026.
- As many as 20 to 25 million people in Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia are in need of food assistance due to climate stresses, while gaps in data collection and forecasting hinder effective response, according to director of the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) Dr. Abdi Fidar.
