A bitter family feud has erupted over the multibillion-shilling estate of former Attorney General James Boro Karugu, following his death on November 10, 2022. The conflict centers on allegations that a submitted will, used to control Karugu’s vast wealth, was forged, leading to criminal investigations and a constitutional showdown.

• At the heart of the dispute are two competing wills and a settlement trust deed for the JBK Foundation.
• The disputed will, dated April 2, 2014, lists eight beneficiaries, including four additional children not named in the 2010 will which was drafted by senior advocate Manubhai Patel.
• The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) directed the prosecution of seven individuals, including two lawyers and a Church Reverend, for alleged forgery, but the High Court issued conservatory orders halting arrests.
• Karugu's estate includes 21 parcels of land measuring 753 acres, Treasury bonds worth Sh404.7 million, nine vehicles, and millions of shares in companies like Kenya Power and Nation Media Group, as well as Avenue House on Nairobi's Kenyatta Avenue.
