President William Ruto has declared a war on garbage cartels in Nairobi, announcing a comprehensive plan to overhaul waste management starting April 1, which will involve collaboration between the national government, county government, and residents. This initiative aims to address the city's long-standing cleanliness issues and remove control from powerful interests.

• President Ruto stated that 40 per cent of river clean-up works are complete, with full sewerage expansion expected by January next year.
• The plan includes rehabilitating rivers, expanding sewerage systems, and constructing 123,000 affordable housing units with Sh250 billion government funding.
• Ruto also pledged to issue a title deed for Gikomba Market within 90 days and allocated Sh1 billion for its expansion and modernization, with construction expected to take nine months.
