The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced extensive infrastructure upgrades and modernization plans for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Moi International Airport (MIA), and Kisumu International Airport to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
- JKIA will see new restaurant outlets across Terminals 1A, 1D, and 2, alongside a dedicated airport taxi application to streamline ground transport.
- At MIA in Mombasa, works include ground and slope stabilization, a garden restaurant, and HVAC system upgrades.
- Kisumu International Airport (KIA) will benefit from slope stabilization and reclamation efforts, in addition to new baggage wrapping services.
- Beyond these major airports, other regional facilities like Ukunda, Malindi, Wilson, Nanyuki, and Isiolo are also slated for upgrades.
- These developments precede the government's plan to begin construction of a new world-class airport, announced by President William Ruto in January, with an estimated cost of around Ksh264 billion.
