The Kenyan Government, through the Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) Directorate, has partnered with the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to begin preparatory activities for the Mau Summit-Eldoret-Malaba Road upgrade project.
- A pre-feasibility study, financed by the AIIB and conducted by CPICS (Canada) and Avatech Engineering (Kenya), will run for approximately four months.
- The Mau Summit-Eldoret-Malaba corridor is a vital part of the Northern Corridor, linking Kenya to Uganda and the wider East and Central African region.
- The government expects to sign legal contracts by mid-2027, with the private partner taking over design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the upgraded road.
- This follows the Multilateral Cooperation Center for Development Finance (MCDF)‘s approval of a Ksh408,586,500 grant to support the project’s preparation.
- The Ministry of Transport confirmed steady progress on the Rironi–Mau Summit Highway, with 25 km currently under construction.
