A Kenyan judge, Justice Bahati Mwamuye, has rejected an attempt by the Rastafari Society of Kenya (RSK) to present raw bhang (Cannabis Sativa) as evidence in their case seeking legalisation of its use for worship. The court deemed the substance illegal and declined to allow its entry.
- The judge stated, "I cannot breach the law by permitting members of the Rastafari society to traffic into court a drug that is prohibited under the law."
- Lawyers Danstan Omari and Shadrack Wambui will now use photographs/videos of bhang downloaded from the Internet as electronic evidence.
- The case, which challenges the criminalisation of cannabis under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, is adjourned to March 13 and March 20, 2026 for hearing.
- Nacada (National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse) has been enjoined as an interested party in the case.
