Kenya is advancing plans for two new expressways to link with Uganda, aiming to ease traffic and improve regional trade along the Northern Corridor. These projects include expanding the Mau Summit-Eldoret-Malaba highway and building a new Kisian-Busia expressway.
- The Mau Summit-Eldoret-Malaba highway expansion is a 243-kilometre project, with pre-feasibility studies underway by a consortium of Canadian and Kenyan firms.
- The project is funded by the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and will connect to the existing Sh170 billion Rironi-Mau Summit dual highway.
- A separate 190km expressway from Kisian to the Uganda border via Busia is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), with Uganda constructing a connecting 60km expressway from Jinja to Busesa.

In another regional trade development, Rwanda has outpaced Uganda as Kenya's top coffee supplier. Data from the Agriculture and Food Authority for the quarter ending September 2025 shows Rwanda accounted for 43 percent of coffee imports, signaling a shift in consumer preference.
