The Police Reforms Working Group Kenya (PRWG-K) has condemned recent "shoot-to-kill" statements by Coast Regional Police Commander, Ali Nuno, warning that such directives are unlawful and endanger lives. The group also criticized alleged administrative transfers of officers accused of excessive force, arguing this promotes impunity.

PRWG-K stressed that any police use of force must adhere to legality, necessity, proportionality, accountability, and last resort, in line with Section 1(A) of the Sixth Schedule to the National Police Service Act, 2011.
Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno ordered police to use firearms against criminals, especially those with machetes, stating, "I have given the police the order to use their weapons."
The National Police Service (NPS) denied claims of transferring officers linked to excessive force in Nandi County, stating actions are administrative and accountability will be ensured.
