Kenya's anti-corruption efforts have suffered a significant setback, with the country dropping eight places to rank 130th out of 182 countries in the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index. This new report by Transparency International (TI) paints a grim picture, indicating a loss in the fight against graft despite ongoing reforms.

Kenya scored a dismal 30 out of 100 points, down from 32 points in 2024.
Executive Director of Transparency International Kenya, Sheila Masinde, attributed the decline to systemic weaknesses and weak enforcement of anti-corruption laws.
Sub-Saharan Africa continues to be the worst-performing region globally, with an average score of 32 out of 100.
Globally, the average score hit a decade-low of 42 out of 100, with Denmark topping the index.
The Kenya Kwanza administration faces accusations of rampant corruption, with President William Ruto warning Members of Parliament against turning committees into "extortion rings."
