President William Ruto has strongly criticized his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, calling him an “idler with no plan” over remarks concerning the government's drought response in northern Kenya.

• Gachagua accused the government of slow action and insufficient funding, stating the allocated Sh4 billion and Sh4.1 billion monthly expenditure is inadequate for 3.3 million people, translating to only about Sh1,200 per person compared to the UN's Sh2,700 benchmark.
• The main figures involved are President William Ruto and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
• Gachagua also alleged misuse of public resources and called for the drought to be declared a national disaster in 10 counties.
