Phase 1 of the Mombasa-Mariakani highway upgrade is nearing completion, with the rest of the project on schedule, as announced by Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo. This upgrade aims to ease congestion and improve cargo movement along the Northern Corridor.

• Lot 1, an 11.4 km stretch from Mombasa to Kwa Jomvu, is almost finished, expanding from a four-lane to a six-lane highway.
• Raymond Omollo stated the project is designed to decongest Mombasa and strengthen regional trade.
• The Ministry of Interior is supporting the project by managing traffic and enforcing orderly movement, ensuring minimal disruption.
• The government is also upgrading other major roads, including the Nakuru-Nairobi highway, with the Rironi-Mau Summit dualisation expected by June 2027.
