Acting Chief Khadhi Sheikh Sukyan Omar Hassan has formed a National Moon Sighting team to determine the start of Ramadan 2026, expected on Tuesday or Wednesday. This initiative aims to ensure unity and accuracy in the moon-sighting process among Kenyan Muslims.

• The moon sighting team will convene on Tuesday evening, February 17, 2026, at the Kadhi’s Court in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
• Organizations invited include the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (Supkem), the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), and the East Africa Moon Sighting team.
• Sheikh Sayid Ahmad Ahmed Badawy of the Kenya Fatwa Council (KFC) stated that Ramadan would commence on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, based on local moon sightings, contradicting the Chief Kadhi's initial indication of Tuesday.
