The National Council for Persons with Disabilities has launched the Ustawi Scholarship Programme, providing educational support to 2,201 children with disabilities across Kenya. This initiative offers school fees, mentorship, therapy, and essential supplies, aiming to ensure inclusive education for vulnerable students.
- Ksh. 59 million has been disbursed this year, benefiting students in 847 schools nationwide.
- Chief Executive Officer Dr. Michael Munene stated the program provides comprehensive support beyond fees, including diagnostic services and essential items like diapers.
- The scholarships are awarded based on vulnerability, household income, and guardianship, verified by county committees including Ministry of Education officials. In Nairobi County, 218 students are currently benefiting.
- The program has garnered support from partners such as Kenya Pipeline Corporation, sponsoring 282 students, and KCB Foundation, supporting 100 students.
