The Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) has launched a new regional Water Information System (LVB WIS) at its headquarters in Kisumu, Kenya, aimed at improving shared water resource management across the Lake Victoria Basin.

The LVB WIS is a shared digital platform integrating hydrological, meteorological, environmental, and socio-economic data to support joint decision-making.
The system will enable real-time modelling, forecasting, and advanced analytics for flood preparedness, water allocation, and quality monitoring.
Developed in collaboration with the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), the program is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union through KfW, in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
